Here are the instructions for signing up for the CITI website training program that is specific to researchers who will be working with animals. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully to insure that you complete the correct course or courses. If you have any questions, contact the CARC office at 459-3150.
To access the training:
* You should go to http://www.citiprogram.org/ to register for CITI online training.
* Once there, simply click on ""New
Users Register Here".
* Under "Select your institution
or organization" page select "University of California, Santa Cruz" in
the "Participating Institutions" drop down box.
* Next you should proceed to create
your own username and password.
* Next you should click on "Laboratory
Animal Welfare"* Under 'Role in Human Subjects Research' select your
role (e.g. PI, Student Researcher, Vet). After going through registration
process you should be set up as a CITI Learner.
* When you enter the program, check
both boxes that say CARC Investigators (Question 1, Groups 3 and 4)
* On Question 3, please check "Working
with the IACUC Course." You also have the option of selecting animal
specific courses, if you are interested.
* When you enter the IACUC training
course, you need to visit the required section and complete all the elective
modules except: 'Dog Exercise', 'Primate Psychological Enrichment' and 'Using
Human Patient Care Areas for Animal Research'.

"Working with the IACUC" This is the course that CARC requires for approval of all protocols.
"Essentials for IACUC Members" This course should be taken by all members of CARC.
On a case by case basis, other courses may be required by either CARC or the Vivarium staff for personnel working in the Vivarium.
